October 2013 at Clive Scott Chimney Sweeps
The winter months are fast approaching and with this comes the usual rush of calls to book a sweep. At www.clivescottchimneysweeps.co.uk we are still managing to make bookings to fit around our Customers’ needs but the sheer volume of calls we are getting may mean a wait of a week or so in the very near future.
As always, a big thank you to all of you who have contacted us, either to make a booking or just for advice.
We have had calls from far and wide over the past weeks as many of you noticed in our last blog about our close location to all the major road networks which means we can cover 30-40 miles in a very short time.
Area’s we have worked have been Westerham, Isle of Grain, Maidstone, Borough Green, Sevenoaks, Kemsing, Lullingstone, Chelsfield Village, Bromley, Lewisham, Blackheath, Gravesend, Higham, Cobham, Wrotham, Swanley, Swanley Village, Chelmsford, Brentwood, Grays, Margaretting, Ingatestone and Mountnessing to name but a few.
Being a member of one of the four Industry Recognised Chimney Sweeps Association, in our case, The Institute of Chimney Sweeps ( ICS ), we are able to offer our Customers piece of mind in the knowledge that we are kept up to date with all the latest Technologies, Regulations and Safety issues in our Industry. We take our membership of ICS very seriously and are in communication with them on a regular basis, whether for advice or to pass on to them any situations concerning chimney safety we may come across.
We do come across chimney flues, on very rare occasions, where we feel they may be unsafe to use without first being tested to check there soundness by way of Pressure Testing.
We always recommend, in the instance of a Gas Appliances, for you to get your Registered Gas Safe Engineer to visit, check the Flue and make a full report.
In the instance of Solid Fuel Appliances we recomend you should consult your local HETAS Engineer and Installer.
We issue a Certificate of Sweeping for each and every chimney we sweep, but if in our opinion, we feel the flue is not safe to use in conjunction with its appliance we will tick the relevant box on the certificate. Please don’t ask us to do otherwise.
We don’t Supply Solid Fuel Stoves or install liners but are happy to recommend to you companies that do.
On a lighter note I have met quite a few colourful characters and swept a few tricky chimneys on my travels this past month and I shall be sharing a few stories in the second part of this month’s blog which will be coming soon.
Keep Warm, Safe and enjoy your Fire.
